Stolen Computer Puts Vanderbilt Students at Risk

Officials at Vanderbilt University notified over 7,000 current and former students that their personal information may be at risk due to the theft of a professor's desktop computer in Feb. The computer contained names and Social Security numbers. Because of the security breach, Vanderbilt's provost has ordered faculty to purge all personal information from their computers and not collect it anymore. Starting this fall, when students register for classes, they will use a number other than their Social Security number.
