- New Jersey College Conducts Shooter Response Drill
From "Campus Practices 'McNasty' Threat" by: Leslie Kwoh, Newark Star-Ledger
- On Jan. 10, a four-hour practice drill took place at the College of St. Elizabeth in Morristown, N.J. Campus security personnel worked with the Florham Park emergency response team and the Morris Township special operations unit. An officer played the role of an armed man searching for his ex-girlfriend on campus. Officers were split into two teams, which surrounded the student center to apprehend the "suspect." Campus security personnel were responsible for evacuating students from the building. Police Capt. Dennis Reilly said the two teams had been formed last year to practice timing and coordination. "It's a chance to familiarize ourselves with the campus and other agencies," he says. "With the incidents that have occurred nationwide, it certainly emphasizes the fact that cooperative response is better," says college president Sister Francis Raftery.
