- Tornado Inflicts Heavy Damage on Union University in Jackson, Tennessee

- Students were trapped inside two heavily damaged residence halls at Union University in Jackson, Tenn., after a tornado hit the campus on the night of Feb. 5. At least 13 students had to be rescued by firefighters from the Watters Complex of men's dormitories and the Hurt Complex of women's dormitories. In all, at least 51 students had to be taken to the hospital, nine with serious injuries. Power lines were down across the campus and cars were turned over on their sides. "The damage is 10 times worse than in 2002" when a tornado hit the campus, says Union President David Dockery . "Every dorm is completely damaged." Classes at the university have been canceled through at least Feb. 13.
