- El Camino College Puts Security Cameras on Watch
From the article of the same name by: Altman, Larry, Daily Breeze - After two sexual assaults occurred on the El Camino College campus within the past seven months, students and employees urged authorities to install campus lighting and electronic surveillance. Now, eight surveillance cameras are being installed throughout the campus and there are plans to install 100 or more by year's end. The cameras, disguised as street lanterns, will mostly be installed near walkways, buildings, and parking areas. Dispatchers at the campus police station will receive images from the cameras on their video screens and will be able to focus in on specific areas of campus if they suspect something. Along with the cameras, fiber optic lines are also being installed so that emergency phone systems can pinpoint the location when a person picks up the receiver.
