- Washington State University Police Taking New Patrol Restrictions in Stride
From the article of the same name by: Guenthner, Hayley, KLEW3 TV (ID) - Campus police at any of Washington state's public universities and colleges are not permitted to conduct random patrols of dormitories, which have the same privacy protection as the inside of a home, the state Appeals Court has ruled. Some dorm residents had been concerned about their privacy; now, Washington State University Police Chief Bill Gardner says, students will still be able to feel the police presence on campus, but will only see officers in the residence halls if someone calls them there. Gardner said he does not expect there to be a rise in crime as a result of police no longer patrolling the halls but that, "if a specific incident occurs that drives new legislation or a different policy, then we'll change things."
