- Indiana University Builds Data Center to Stand Up to F5 Tornado
From an Associated Press article of the same title, Insurance Journal
- Indiana University is building a $32.7 million data center at the former University School complex in Bloomington that will be capable of withstanding a F5 category tornado as well as other disasters and power outages. The center will house computers, servers, and data storage units that hold more than 2.8 petabytes of information, including the Big Red supercomputer designed by IBM, the largest of its type in the world. The center is being constructed at a location surrounded by grassy slopes that will provide natural protection. "This data center will ensure IU's systems keep running,'' says IU President Michael McRobbie. Construction is slated for completion in 2009.
